Last month I went for a walking tour of Irish country side. This month I was again in Dublin area, this time for a week. So guess what I did in the free weekend that I had. Yes, of cours: hiking tours Ireland! I didn’t take just a tour, this time I took two of them.
This time I went a bit further and tried short tours in Cooley & Mournes Mountains, an hour north of Dublin. The normal tour would be 5 to 8 days, but since I didn’t had that much time, I just went for a two day trip until a certain village that I could take a late train up to Dublin in the evening.
The website says it better than me:
The Mourne Mountains or ‘Mournes’ is a granite mountain range located in County Down in the south-east of Northern Ireland and are among the most famous mountains in the country.
The National Trust partly owns the Mournes and see a large number of visitors and hill walkers every year. The highest peak is Slieve Donard at 849 metres (2,785 ft).
And beside that, this is one of the most oyster full area of Ireland, so if you are an oyster fan, this is one of the places to get.
The trips were a bit tougher than I would have expected, but I did brought the right gear for climbing and walking around, so it wasn’t an issue.
The only thing that I regret is that I didn’t bring my Canon with me up there. I had some beautiful photo spots in the area, but without a proper camera, I didn’t even bother taking pictures, I just enjoyed the view.
If you want to enjoy the countryside and take some fresh air, I would recommend the 8 day trip. It’s a nice way to enjoy the nature and relax. Unfortunately, as a young working man, I don’t really have that much consecutive free days.
But maybe you have.
