Huniade Castle is the oldest known building in Timisoara, built by John (Ioan) of Hunedoara and is located right in the town center, being built between 1443 and 1447 on the ruins off an older castle from the 14th century. In the courtyard had been discovered the wall and donjon tour foundation, presumably build between 1307 and 1314.
Today, Huniade Castle hosts the Banat Museum with it’s three domains: History, Archeology and Nature Science. It’s a place open for visitors from Tuesday to Sunday between 10:00 AM to 16:00 PM. You can visit the courtyard and castle interior in that program for only 4 lei (ticket price). If you want to photograph inside the castle, it will cost you an extra 18 lei / hour, and if you want to film it, it’s 100 lei extra per hour.
It’s a nice place to visit and of the best preserved buildings in Timisoara, I might say. So check it out next time when you visit Timisoara.
